In a groundbreaking triumph at the 2024 Miss America pageant held in orlando, Florida , 22-year-old second lieutenant US Air Force Officer Madison Marsh, an active-duty officer inh the US Air Force and a master’s student at the Harvard Kennedy School’s puplic policy program, secured the coveted national title. Representing the state of Colorado, Marsh’s Victory marks a hisotoric moment as the first-ever active-duty Air Force of officer to be crowned Miss America.
The competition, featuring 51 contestants representing all 50 US states and the district of Columbia, saw Ellie Breaux of Texas clinching the first-runner-up position.
The culmination of three night of prelimanary competitions led to the selection of 11 semi-finalist-10 chosen by preliminary judge and one through a puplic vote that enagage pageant fans nation wide. These 11 woman engaged in four rounds of competition, including a fitness showcase, a “hot topics” discussion round, a talent performance, and an evening gown presentation. The five finalist Madison, Marsh and Ellie Breaux at the forefront, were announced after these rounds followed by Cydney Bridges of Indiana, Mallory Hudson of Kentucky, and Caroline parents of Rhode Island.
The discussion round covered divers topics such as terrorism, technology, ntrition, and climate change. Marsh responding to the theme of “drugs in America,” shared a poignant personal experiance about her late mother’s battle with pancreatic cancer. In the talent round, she delivered a compelling spoken-word piece centered on her achievement of obtaining a pilot’s at the age of 16.

The finalist faced and additional question about their goals as Miss America, to which Marsh emphasized her military background as a testament to her commitment to learning and leading “with passion.”
